I'm getting an iPhone!  An actual iPhone!

I've gone for the black 3GS 32GB handset, and it's £35 per month (less 10% which I get off my line rental for having been with Orange for so long), and that includes unlimited WiFi and 750MB per month usage on the Internet.  And I get 600 free minutes and unlimited texts.

It's arriving on Monday.

And I'm really rather excited!

Our holiday tickets have arrived! Woo and indeed hoo! I can't believe it's almost time to go - it's really crept up on me for some reason. But it's just 2½ weeks now! I need to find out what the weather's likely to be like in the Swiss Alps at the start of April, as I may need some new fleeces or something.

In other news, my left eye has gone a bit bloodshot and I don't know why. It doesn't really hurt, although it's a tad uncomfortable. I'll let it checked out if it gets any worse.

We watched the end of Crufts last night. The Hungarian Vizsla won, which was a pretty good choice. I loved the Maltese as well. It was so cute. Heaven only knows how they keep it so clean though!

I see Beckham's gone and got himself mashed and is out of the World Cup. My heart is bleeding...

I'm sure there was other stuff I was going to say, but I can't remember what any of it was now. Ah, well!

Dexter bought me Just Dance for the Wii for Mother's Day. I wonder how he knew I wanted it...

My plans for today are to continue enjoying the lie-in I'm having at the moment whilst watching some more of the cricket (which isn't all that exciting tbh because it's so one-sided), and then to get up, have some breakfast, nip to the supermarket and then come back and do a shedload of writing. I have the next few bits sorted in my head, so it's just a case of getting typing really.

We went to Fishbone last night and although we had a good meal, the service was appalling. We had our meals and then they cleared the plates away and just left us! We were sat there for half an hour, waiting to see if they were going to offer us a dessert, before deciding that actually, we'd just have some chocolate at home instead. Not surprisingly, we didn't leave a tip. Not even a single penny.

I have to get back onto the Slimming World plan from tomorrow. I've been dreadful lately, eating crap and drinking too many boozes, and as I'll be sat by the pool in Cala d'Or in just SEVENTEEN WEEKS' time, I really need to get myself sorted. So if anyone sees me posting on here, FB or Twitter about having crisps, chocolate or wine, please tell me off in the strongest possible terms. (This does not include tonight, btw. I'm starting tomorrow.)

This is my house, on Google Street View!

We're not chavs, btw. The flag's hanging out of our window because it was St George's Day when the picture was taken :-)

If anyone was listening to Chris Moyles early doors this morning and heard him read out a text from Janine in Plymouth, who's having pizza for dinner tonight, that was me!

In other news, Alastair Cook needs a haircut. And the England selectors need a good kicking for not selecting Tredwell.

Here at work, we have TV screens in the office which show news headlines and adverts for training courses and the like, and at the top it has a little scrolling bar with local headlines on it. This morning, one of them is "psychic show is cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances". *giggles*

And finally, it is Friday. Huzzah!

stuff...

This news story made me cry.

This news story also made me cry - this time, with laughter.

And in other news...

I've booked tickets to see the Dancing on Ice live show in Manchester in April.  I hadn't planned on going again this year, but then I saw the line-up and decided it would be both awesome and an excuse to do some Daniel-perving, so that sealed the deal.  I just need to book a hotel and the flights now.

This is quite a cute story.  I particularly like the quote, "I'm in the connecting room and all I could hear was him moaning".  Sadly though, that's not the whole sentence...

The days are getting so much lighter now!  I'm awake by 6.00am because it's getting light (although when Mr Blackbird's giving it welly I'm usually awake long before then!), and now I'm even getting home from work in daylight.  I just need it to warm up a little now.  David Brain says it'll be 11 degrees on Saturday, so it's getting there.  Everything's very behind though.  It's practically the middle of March and we still have snowdrops in the garden!  And I haven't seen a single wild daffodil yet!  This is one spring that's going to be very welcome, I tell you!

I watched this programme last night about the solar system and it's presented by this cute little northern dude called Professor Brian Cox.  It was really good although some of it did go over my head, but I found myself feeling really disturbed by the fact that this guy who looked about 10 could be an actual professor.  I mentioned this to mum and she told me to Wikipedia him.  So I did.  This is him.  He's not 10, after all.  He's actually 42.  And he used to be in D:Ream.  Now, that's my kind of scientist!

I love this!

My standard reaction time seems to be around 0.3 second mark...

Anyone who listened to the start of Chris Moyles this morning will have heard him and the team takling about Tory MP Sir Nicholas Winterton, who has been grumbling that MPs may no longer be entitled to travel in first class accommodation on the trains and may instead get lumped in with second class passengers. According to Sir Nicholas, standard class passengers are "a totally different type of people." Also, "There's lots of children, there's noise, there's activity."

Now, it's not often I agree with politicians but OMG he's so right! I HATE travelling in standard class on the train! It's an awful experience. I always seem to end up crammed into narrow seats (if I'm lucky enough to get a seat, that is) and more often than not I find myself surrounded by a family of chavs who spend the entire journey either effing and jeffing (usually, but not always, the parents) or throwing temper tantrums (usually, but not always, the children). And then, if I dare to turn my iPod up slightly to drown out the insufferable noise, some interfering old busybody comes and taps me on the shoulder and asks me to turn it down! And also, it's impossible to write smut because someone will always be sat beside me and I just know they're going to be peering over my shoulder to see what I'm writing, and if my netbook is small enough without reducing the zoom or the font size any further.

I like travelling by train, don't get me wrong. But when I'm doing so, I like to be able to listen to my music quietly, and to write or to read, or even just to be left alone with my thoughts. I don't like being surrounded by unruly people or to have to put up with copious amounts of children running up and down the aisles, jostling my seat and generally causing a disturbance.

I realise that all of the above makes me sound like a very intolerant person but actually I should fess up and admit that that's just what I am. I'm incredibly intolerant and exceedingly selfish and I always want to have everything (public transport included) on my own terms. I want to be able to seat in peace and quiet or to listen to chill out stuff on my iPod with the volume down low. I don't want to have to pretend it's funny when the "darling" child across the way decides to mash a bar of chocolate over their face instead of eating it. I don't want to make polite conversation with the person who's sat themselves next to me and is trying to read my fic over my shoulder. I just don't want it.

Which is why I love sitting up in first class.

And which is why I completely, 100% agree with Sir Nicholas Winterton on this topic.

In fact, I salute him.

I appear to have dripped Marmite onto my white top whilst eating my sandwich this lunchtime.

That'll teach me to eat unhealthy food, won't it...

Actually, it probably won't...

I appear to have turned into something of a plane spotter. Dexter had to go back to the vet this afternoon (more of that later) and as I was driving home, I noticed that the landing lights were on. There's a little industrial estate near to the airport's permiter fence (this may come as a shock to you, but it's called the Airport Business Park) and so I decided to park in there and take Dexter for a little walk around and see if there were any planes on their way in. There's a little track that runs along by the perimeter fence, and I walked along there while I was waiting. I soon spotted one on his way in, and I was standing virtually right at the end of the runway as he came in. It was excellent - he was only just a tiny bit higher than the tops of the trees! Anyway, that was pretty good and then as I got back to the car, I spotted lights in the sky not too far away - another plane on its way in! This time, I stood right next to the landing lights, and he went right over my head! Obviously he was losing height as he came in towards the airport, and for a few seconds it was like he was aiming right for me! I loved it!

So yes, that's me. Plane spotter.

Now, as I mentioned before, poor Dexter was back at the vet again today. When we went in the week we got given some hibiscrub to put on his sorely balls and he also had some painkillers and some antibiotics. The painkillers ran out this morning and we gave up on the hibiscrub because it seemed to make them worse, not better, but he's still not right with them and so I wanted some more painkillers. Only they wouldn't give them out without a second consultatio, so back we went. I've now got some steroid gel to put on them as well. Hopefully he won't have an adverse reaction to that.

The Winter Limpix have started. I was going to watch the men's downhill this evening but it's been put back a few days due to the weather. Damn and blast! Some poor bloke got killed doing the luge yesterday. Eurosport in their "wisdom" decided to show unedited footage of it, without giving out any warning that they were about to do so. It was just horrific. We're watching a bit of ski jumping now. They all seem to have dodgy hair, for some reason. There's a whole lot of mullets going on.

We're just watching a programme about downhill skiers, with Michel Johnson "presenting". It's very interesting, but bloody hell, the crashes some of these guys have had are horrific. Even when they're actually interviewing the guys and so you know they've survived, it looks sickening. Remind me please, to never ever put on a pair of skis? Like, ever?

Awesome headline on one of my cricket news feeds this morning:

"Vaseline incident should never have happened..."

Right, so... The weekend.

It was a bit of a stonker, as it goes.

I woke on Saturday morning following a dream in which I ran into Darren Anderton walking down the A379 towards town, wearing a flowery dress, flowery tights, suspenders and peep toed sandals. He had red nail polish on his toenails, quite neatly applied as well.

So that was how my day started.

I then got up and had a spot of breakfast before bundling Teh Dogge into the car and heading off to Loe Bar down in south west Cornwall, via Sticker. I'd planned to go into the stop in Sticker to get some actual stickers for [livejournal.com profile] me_unabridged but this plan was foiled by the fact that the shop there didn't sell actual stickers. I did get something, though, so it wasn't a completely wasted detour.

When we got to Loe Bar and parked up, the first thing I noticed as I stepped out of the car was how still the air was and how incredibly warm it was. I'd taken both a fleece and a rain jacket, but needed neither and walked the entire route in just my jeans and t-shirt. Total bliss! After I'd noticed those two things, I then noticed how loud the sea was. A glance over in its direction told me that was because the waves were just massive - the biggest I've ever seen. The noise they made when they broke was like thunder, it was just breathtaking. When I got to the beach at Loe Bar I realised why - the beach apparently shelves very steeply, thus causing these large waves.

We walked along the cliff path to the beach and then Dexter had a swim in the pool there at the back of the beach before we headed up and followed a path around the side of the pool towards Penrose House and back via the lanes. We were walking for about 2 hours in all, it was really lovely.

On the drive home I decided to nip through Redruth and pick up the A30. It used to take me a minimum of 90 minutes to drive back from the big roundabout at Truro, but now the road has been turned into a dual carriageway over Goss Moor (which used to be such a bottleneck, especially when lorries crashed into the low railway bridge - which happened with alarming regularity), and also the A38 at Dobwalls is now a dual carriageway, and the trip took less than an hour. I love Cornwall, there are some amazing walks down there, but I haven't been much over the last few years because it always takes so long to get there. Now, though, it doesn't take anything like as long, so I'll definitely head down there more often!

On Saturday evening we had curry dings and some San Miguel and wine, which was delicious.

Then yesterday morning I got up and headed into town to get my hair done. I've had a mahogany colour put on it, and have had a bit of a fringe in as well. I'm really pleased with the result, she's done a cracking job! I also did a bit of shopping - two pairs of trousers and a few tops in Marksies. But I was good and stopped myeslf from getting the new Mo Hayder book in Waterstones - I'm going to see whether they have it in the library.

The rest of yesterday I spent doing some writing, and then in the evening I watched Dancing on Ice, which was entertaining.

And that was my weekend. I believe I promised photos earlier.

Here you go... )

On Saturday, it was so lovely and warm that I really did think spring was on the way. This evening, it's snowing (contrary to what that daft bint said on the weather forecast on Spotlight about it staying dry). Bloody weather!

In a most unusual and unexpected development, this morning has dawned bright and sunny.

I've just eaten a rather delicious bacon sarnie and now I'm going to get myself organised and head off down into Cornwall to take Teh Dogge for a walk along a beach somewhere. And I'm going to stop off in Sticker on the way, because [livejournal.com profile] me_unabridged wants to have some stickers from Sticker and I said I'd try and get her some.

Later on, I will post about the bizarre dream I had last night, and also about the spooky coincidence with my personal jukebox yesterday morning...

The bloke on tonight's Escape to the Country (half of the couple, not Alastair Appleton) looks scarily like a bald version of Ian Bell...

I've once again managed to have a spectacularly lazy Sunday.

I got up at around 10.00am and had a quick breakfast before taking Teh Dogge for a short walk over to Belliver and back. Then I went to Tesco and did my weekly food shop (I am so rock 'n' roll), and since then I've done very little but sit around and read (The Brightest Star in the Sky by Marian Keyes).

I have done a couple of constructive things, mind. I've cooked up the topping for tomorrow's jacket spud (baked beans, mushrooms and chopped bacon), and I've got my gym bag ready for tomorrow morning.

Yes, that's right - my gym bag. My actual gym bag. I am indeed going to the gym tomorrow morning. Before work. And I may swim as well. Expect tales of woe and achiness this time tomorrow...

This evening promises to bring yet more laziness. I have a curry ding waiting to go in the oven, and I have some San Miguel with my name on it, and a little bit of Chablis left over from Friday night. And that's all going to be consumed while I've got my feet up in front of the telly, watching celebs either being brave or falling over on Dancing on Ice. I think I can cope with that.

Oh, and I know I don't watch football any more, but can I just laugh at Arsenal? What's that? I can? Awesome! *laughs at Arsenal*

A quick heads up to anyone who's got a Tesco Clubcard and wants to earn some additional points...

They're currently doing an offer on Tesco PAYG mobiles, where you get not only your double points, but 1,000 bonus ones if you buy a handset before tomorrow.

Well worth a go, I reckon!

Alistair Appleton reckons the average summer day in Devon consists of 7½ hours of sunshine.

I reckon Alistair Appleton is wrong.

I've had a proper lazy day today.

I got up at around 9.45am and had a bite of breakfast before walking Dexter. Then I read for quite a while, until I could feel myself getting ready to doze off. So I then got myself up and nipped off to Tesco to do my weekly shop (back on the healthy stuff again tomorrow), and then went down to M&S to get a stuffed salmon thing for tonight's dinner (which we've just eaten) and a very naughty KFC for lunch. And then this afternoon I did a bit more reading, watched some old episodes of Escape to the Country (I'm getting rather obsessed with this show, which is a tad worrying because it's making me want to escape to the country myself and sadly can't afford to), and then I walked Dexter again before coming back, reading some more, and then cooking and eating dinner whilst watching Ski Sunday.

And now we're watching Dancing on Ice, but I'm on delay so no spoilers please!

I'm planning on getting up early doors to do some exercise before work tomorrow, but I can't decide whether to just go to the gym, just go for a swim or do a bit of both. Decisions, decisions...

Oh, and in case anyone's wondering - I'm not mentioning the cricket because I have nothing constructive to say about it, except this... Why do England show you a bit of how good they can be and then always go and spoil it by being crap, and how do some of the Saffas sleep at night?

Right. Time to watch some ice skating. And to drink some wine. Good stuff!

This raised a chuckle. Not just because of the name of the stadium, which still makes me smirk, but because they appear to be concerned about missing the deadline for the 2001 world cup.

Um...
